Fayetteville forum: Restaurants and cuisines we would like to see

Fayetteville has its share of chain restaurants but also a wide array of family restaurants and ethnic cuisines — often to the surprise of many visitors and new residents.

Last week, we asked our readers in the Observer Forum what restaurants or cuisines would help round out the city’s food landscape. We also asked people in Fayetteville Foodies, the Observer’s 60,000-strong Facebook group what they thought.

We had a very big response. Below is a sampling.

We have also included a list of restaurants and cuisines suggested by multiple people.

Hopefully, would-be restaurateurs and business developers are tuning in. Bon Appetit.

I would love a restaurant that offers and wider variety of gluten-free foods, and it’s actually gluten free and reasonably priced. There’s not enough restaurants that really cater to that.

I would love to see higher-end Mexican cuisine represented in Fayetteville, and more boutique restaurants targeting Millennials would be helpful. And more bars and restaurants with later hours.

I would like to see more that are focused on quality ingredients and fresh-made items. Also a nice place with beef tartare and escargot. Or a wine and tapas style place would be cool.

Anything. The food doesn't matter much anymore.

We want a restaurant that hires employees at a living wage with guaranteed 30 hours or more a week, preferably full-time. Yes, that means tipping is not necessary unless you really want … and no tip pools.

Offer them benefits to include health insurance and paid time off. This will immediately raise the service quality.

As far as the food, I want three things: meat, as I am not vegan, consistency and no pre-made frozen items. I can open a bag of frozen mozzarella sticks at home.

I literally do not care what type of food is served. We’ll go just out of principle, and I’m sure other people will agree that higher prices for high quality are acceptable.

Actual fine dining. Something that is fresh. Not premade. HEALTHY food. Not fried.

Something that took a little skill and imagination to make. A dish that is actually plated artfully. I would love a place to patronize that was an experience.

A true bagel shop. I’m from the northeast where there's bagel shops that make fresh bagels with dozens of different varieties. They also make their own fresh cream cheese, some shops with their own signature flavors.

Lastly, they make amazing, mouthwatering breakfast sandwiches, including pork roll. I would do anything to be able to go to a shop like back home every Sunday morning.
